The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund receives US$40,000 Petco grant

The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund has been awarded a US$40,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to fund treatment grants for dogs and cats fighting cancer.
The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing canine and feline cancer. Although the Fund accepts applications internationally, the majority of treatment grants are offered to applicants in the US. Since 2007, The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund has helped more than 150 dogs and cats get cancer treatment, and has increased its maximum grant amount from US$700 per pet per annum to the current maximum of US$1,500 per pet per annum.
The Petco Foundation grant will be used to increase the number of pets who receive grants in 2014, along with increasing the maximum grant amount per pet per annum. “We are honored to be chosen as a Petco Foundation grant recipient for a second time,” said Chris Meiering, vice president and founder of The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. “This funding will allow us to help another 25–30 dogs and cats get the treatment they need to fight cancer.”

Blue Buffalo, Petco raise millions for pet cancer research

Blue Buffalo and Petco have raised more than US$2.4 million in 2014 for pet cancer research. The partnership, which began in 2010, has raised more than US$7 million total so far. This year, Blue Buffalo donated US$1 to go to pet cancer research for every bag of Blue dog or cat food sold during the month of May at any of the more than 1,300 Petcos nationwide. Additionally, Petco customers were asked to make a donation at the cash register or online.
Money raised will fund efforts like the Denver, Colorado-based Morris Animal Foundation’s 5-5-5 Initiative, which will conduct five annual clinical trials on osteosarcoma, the most common form of bone cancer in dogs. Additional money will be distributed to universities and clinics across the US that are conducting research on the causes, prevention and treatment of canine and feline cancer, as well as to organizations that are dedicated to helping families in need cover the cost of pet cancer treatments.

Zuke's donates more than US$175,000 to fight canine cancer to date

Zuke's announced that as of September 27, the pet treat maker has donated more than US$175,000 to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCFund), a nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing canine and feline cancer.
The DCCFund was created by Zuke's founder, Patrick Meiering, and his brother, Chris, in 2007 after their childhood dog and, more recently, Zuke, the company's namesake, died of canine cancer.
Since the inception of the DCCFund, Zuke's has contributed a portion of all sales to the organization. With Zuke's support, the DCCFund has increased the annual grant amount per pet from US$700 in 2007, to  US$1200 in 2011, and most recently to US$1500 in 2013. The DCCFund estimates it will be able to help a record 100 pets in 2013, up from 42 in 2011 and 69 in 2012.
"Zuke's donates a portion of all product sales to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund," said Chris Meiering, Zuke's director of marketing and co-founder of the DCCFund. "We invest in this organization because we passionately believe that the ability to pay one's vet bills shouldn't be a factor in giving pets a fighting chance against this terrible disease."

Zuke's expands Dog and Cat Cancer Fund pet food retailer program

The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund, a nonprofit created by Zuke’s Performance Pet Nutrition founder, Patrick Meiering and his brother, Chris, to help make cancer treatment for pets affordable, is expanding its “Round Up at the Register” program for retailers.
The program helps increase awareness of this financial resource among pet stores and pet store customers who have encountered cancer in a pet or who may be in need of assistance in the future. “Round Up at the Register” provides pet parents with information about the fund, while also collecting donations to support the organization's work. The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund provides brochures and register displays for the promotional period free of charge.
“Partnering with nonprofits that work on behalf of pets builds a stronger, more loyal relationship with customers, resulting in lasting goodwill and increased revenues,” says Chris Meiering, president of the organization. “Customers know they are working with a retailer who supports their pet in ways beyond selling products and they are more likely to patronize that store. Retailers are also providing information about a valuable resource for their customers who may have a personal experience with pet cancer.”

Canine Caviar spoke about pet cancer awareness at Global Pet Expo

Canine Caviar exhibited at Global Pet Expo, March 16 – 18, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA.
At the Expo, Canine Caviar spoke to industry professionals about pet nutrition and cancer awareness. The company is the only one to carry an alkaline-based pet formula line designed to help prevent cancer, according to Canine Caviar.
“Studies have shown that eating foods that make the body’s pH more alkaline decreases the chance of cancer cells developing and growing and the same is true in dogs,” said Jeff Baker, owner and founder of Canine Caviar. “The pet industry has a responsibility to continue this dialogue with the public and to take preventative measures with proper nutrition.”

Zuke's doubles December contributions to Dog, Cat Cancer Fund

Zuke's is increasing its annual contribution to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCF) by doubling December's donations.
Each year, the company donates a portion of the sales from its natural pet treats and chews to DCCF in honor of the company's canine namesake, Zuke, who was a victim of cancer. "My dog, Zuke, inspired the idea behind the company and is also the inspiration for our commitment to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund," said founder and CEO Patrick Meiering. "We are hopeful that our contributions will help fund research to treat the disease, as well as help fund treatment for those pets who are fighting cancer."
According to Pet Care TV, 60% of all dogs will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and cancer is the leading natural cause of canine death.
