Following recent announcements by Petco and PetSmart that the retailers will discontinue sales of pet products made in China, Zuke’s Performance Pet Nutrition has issued a statement reassuring customers that its products are “Made in the USA,” with one new product line made in New Zealand.

According to the company: “Zuke’s proudly manufactures in the United States and recently added manufacturing capacity in New Zealand for our Genuine Jerky, a[n] ultra-premium jerky treat. We set the bar high for each of our suppliers, demanding the highest quality ingredients and best-in-class, inspected manufacturing facilities. These practices ensure that all of our treats, biscuits and dental chews meet stringent US, or New Zealand, quality standards.”
“For nearly 20 years, the health and wellness of our customers’ pets has been our priority. Period. That’s why we make our products here in the USA and in New Zealand,” says Chris Meiering, director of marketing. “When you choose a Zuke’s product, you can be confident that product provides dependable, wholesome nutrition that helps support a pet’s health, well-being and happiness.”
Zuke's announced that as of September 27, the pet treat maker has donated more than US$175,000 to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCFund), a nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing canine and feline cancer.
The DCCFund was created by Zuke's founder, Patrick Meiering, and his brother, Chris, in 2007 after their childhood dog and, more recently, Zuke, the company's namesake, died of canine cancer.
Since the inception of the DCCFund, Zuke's has contributed a portion of all sales to the organization. With Zuke's support, the DCCFund has increased the annual grant amount per pet from US$700 in 2007, to US$1200 in 2011, and most recently to US$1500 in 2013. The DCCFund estimates it will be able to help a record 100 pets in 2013, up from 42 in 2011 and 69 in 2012.
"Zuke's donates a portion of all product sales to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund," said Chris Meiering, Zuke's director of marketing and co-founder of the DCCFund. "We invest in this organization because we passionately believe that the ability to pay one's vet bills shouldn't be a factor in giving pets a fighting chance against this terrible disease."
Zuke's natural pet treat company developed an online data portal resource for its pet food retailers and partners to obtain Zuke's images, order forms, product and display information. Additionally, Zuke’s created a tab on its contact Web page, where customers can upload files and pictures.
Zuke's is increasing its annual contribution to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCF) by doubling December's donations.
Each year, the company donates a portion of the sales from its natural pet treats and chews to DCCF in honor of the company's canine namesake, Zuke, who was a victim of cancer. "My dog, Zuke, inspired the idea behind the company and is also the inspiration for our commitment to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund," said founder and CEO Patrick Meiering. "We are hopeful that our contributions will help fund research to treat the disease, as well as help fund treatment for those pets who are fighting cancer."
According to Pet Care TV, 60% of all dogs will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and cancer is the leading natural cause of canine death.
In March, Zuke's shared its corporate social responsibility report containing details of the company's environmental stewardship and community involvement, including its initiative to sponsor dog athletes.
Zuke's sponsors nearly one dozen dog athletes and teams, from search and rescue dogs like the LaPlata county, Colorado USA search and rescue team to entertainers like the Flying Houndz frisbee team.
"Our company's roots lie within the outdoors and around the concept of dog athletes, " said Patrick Meiering, founder of Zuke's. "We got our start in my garage in 1995 when I started creating my own version of today's power bones with a hand mixer. I was inspired to create all-natural, performance-driven treats that would support my dog's energy and body function on the trails after a long day of hiking."
Zuke’s announced it is helping protect the environment by using eco-friendly petfood packages, alternative energies for its offices and offering eco-incentives to its employees.
Zuke’s, a manufacturer of all-natural pet treats, announced its 2010 retailer support initiatives, many of which are currently in effect.
“We want to support this trend by providing our retail partners with the tools and incentives they need to increase the sell-through of these products in natural and general grocery,” said Patrick Meiering, founder of Zuke’s.
Support initiatives include in-store sampling programs, store locators on the Zuke’s Web site to push retailer sales and tradeshow specials to support new and existing products.
