The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund receives US$40,000 Petco grant

The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund has been awarded a US$40,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to fund treatment grants for dogs and cats fighting cancer.
The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing canine and feline cancer. Although the Fund accepts applications internationally, the majority of treatment grants are offered to applicants in the US. Since 2007, The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund has helped more than 150 dogs and cats get cancer treatment, and has increased its maximum grant amount from US$700 per pet per annum to the current maximum of US$1,500 per pet per annum.
The Petco Foundation grant will be used to increase the number of pets who receive grants in 2014, along with increasing the maximum grant amount per pet per annum. “We are honored to be chosen as a Petco Foundation grant recipient for a second time,” said Chris Meiering, vice president and founder of The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. “This funding will allow us to help another 25–30 dogs and cats get the treatment they need to fight cancer.”

Petco Foundation donates to Dog and Cat Cancer Fund

The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund, a nonprofit that helps fight canine and feline cancer by providing grants to help pet owners pay for treatments, recently received a US$50,000 donation from the Petco Foundation.
With this additional funding, The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund will be able to increase the number of pets it can help in 2013, as well as increase the grant amount per pet.
“Every day, pet parents receive the heartbreaking news that their dog or cat has been diagnosed with cancer. To add to their distress, for many families the high cost of cancer care is too much for an already strained budget,” said Chris Meiering, president of The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. “Our mission is to help pet parents through this difficult time both with informational resources and also financially if the family can’t afford the cost of treatment.”
“The Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo are honored to be able to assist organizations such as The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund fulfill their mission of providing hope to pets and pet parents who are dealing with a pet cancer diagnosis,” said Paul E. Jolly, executive director of the Petco Foundation. “Dealing with a pet with cancer is a terrible experience, made just a little bit easier by groups such as The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. How great that we can be a part of that?”

Petco Foundation to honor Ellen Degeneres for commitment to animals

The Petco Foundation will host its third annual fundraising gala in April, honoring Ellen DeGeneres for her lifelong commitment to animals as co-owner of Halo, Purely for Pets.
Each year, the Petco Foundation gala recognizes one or more people who share the foundation's mission to improve the quality of life for animals and the people who love them. This year, DeGeneres will receive the Foundation's inaugural HOPE Award, which celebrates the spirit of hope through a life dedicated to promoting the human-animal bond. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Halo Pet Foundation.
"We are fortunate to have a great many active supporters, and it's always an honor for us to celebrate the great work being done by our friends and partners to help animals in need," said Paul Jolly, executive director of the Petco Foundation. "We've been big fans of Ellen and her dedication to animal welfare, both in her personal life and through her work with Halo, for many years. We're thrilled to recognize her at this year's gala, and to provide financial support to the Halo Pet Foundation."
Gala attendees will learn how DeGeneres has been an advocate for animals throughout her life, how the Halo Pet Foundation helps pets in need and promotes responsible pet ownership, and how the Petco Foundation works to support more than 7,000 other local animal welfare groups across the country. The gala will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the San Diego, California, USA, Marriott Marquis & Marina. It will feature a black tie-optional cocktail reception, dinner, dancing, entertainment, opportunity drawing and silent auction.
"I wish we lived in a world where caring for animals wasn't so rare that it deserved an award," DeGeneres said. "All I do is treat animals with the respect and dignity they deserve. I hope someday soon, everyone does the same. Petco and the Petco Foundation have made great efforts to protect animals and I commend them for going above and beyond the call of duty."
