Blue Dog Bakery redesigns dog treat packaging

Blue Dog Bakery's redesigned packaging is simpler and features Ruffy, the spokesdog, in 3-D.
Blue Dog Bakery has redesigned the packaging used for its entire line of all-natural dog treats to give the packages a more modern look that better reflects the dog treats inside.
The new simplified packaging, produced by Hornall Anderson, better highlights the benefits of Blue Dog Bakery's treats on the package, marked as "all-natural," "low fat" and "made in the USA," with an updated typeface that makes the packaging print easier to read. Clear windows on the treat packaging now allow consumers to see what the treats look like inside of the bag.
In addition, the packaging has an "Our Community" section on box side panel that highlights the company's support for various animal rescue organizations. It also brings Ruffy, the brand’s blue dog, to life in 3-D.
“Ruffy has been, and always will be, a central piece of our branding, but it was time for our little blue dog to grow up,” said Polanski. “For a brand our size, packaging is critical to our success and our new design ensures that we’re perfectly positioned for growth and expansion.”
New Blue Dog Bakery packaging will begin appearing on retailers’ shelves in late summer 2012.

Mondi wins DuPont Packaging Award for dog food bag

Mondi designed Interquell's Happy Dog petfood packaging with silver 3D lettering and high-definition flexo-printed packaging to make the package stand out.
Mondi Coatings and Consumer Packaging won a DuPont Packaging Award 2012 for its pet food packaging.
The company won the award for its design of Interquell's Happy Dog pet food packaging, which is accentuated with stamped silver 3D lettering, matt OPP film and a high-definition flexo-printed packaging.
"The use of embossing, one of the most interesting finishing processes for printed products, is an excellent way to make consumer packaging stand out," said Stefan Gutheil, managing director, Mondi Consumer Packaging. "It can be used not just for lettering and logos but also for picture elements and entire images, with impressive results. Mondi Lindlar has been one of Europe’s pioneers in introducing hot foil embossing for petfood laminates. In addition, the high-definition flexo-print technology results in images with sharp definition of contours and strong colors, giving the petfood pack an even more appealing look."

Dog food maker replaces plastic containers with paper for Earth Day

Dynamite Specialty Products  is replacing the plastic containers used for packaging its dog food with paper-craft bags in celebration of the upcoming Earth Day, on Friday, April 22.
Beginning in late Spring, bags for smaller products will be made of recyclable paper, sewn at the top and have a moisture-grease barrier that is sprayed on as a liner. The new bags will break down in the recycling process and can be reused by the consumer, according to Callie Novak, vice president.
“The new packaging also will be lighter and more space efficient, resulting in reduced fuel costs for shipping,” Novak said. “We’ve also thought ‘inside the box’ by instituting energy-saving practices such as energy-efficient lighting in our warehouse, automatic light switches in our office, paperless invoices, and 100 percent recycled paper whenever paper is necessary.”
