RECALL: Vitae brand bird food recalled for potential Salmonella contamination

Merit Bird Co. LLC of Chatsworth, California, USA, is recalling select Vitae brand bird foods because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 
The following products with lot codes are being recalled:

• Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 2 lbs. (#2840081)
• Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 4 lbs. (#2840090)
• Vitae Small Hookbill 4 lbs. (#2840225)
• Vitae Small Hookbill 20 lbs. (#2840234)
• Vitae Hookbill with Sunflower 4 lbs. (#2840252)
• Vitae Large Hookbill 4 lbs. (#2840279) 
The bird food was shipped between May 2012 and February 2013, distributed through Southern California, USA, retail pet stores. 
The company says no illnesses have been reported to date. This recall was the result of a routine testing performed by Specialty Commodities, which revealed that the finished products, including parsley that is on recall from Specialty Commodities, contain Salmonella. The company has stopped production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue to investigate.

BIRD FOOD RECALL: Magnolia Bird Farm recalls bird seed mixes containing peanuts

Magnolia Bird Farm Inc. is recalling Raw and Roasted In-shell Peanuts and Magnolia Bird Farm Bird seed mixes that contain peanuts, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The peanuts in the mixes are among those being recalled by Sunland Inc.
Specific products included in the recall are 2-, 3-, 5-, 10-,25- and 50-pound bags of Sunland Peanuts in Shell, Hulled Peanuts, Magnolia Bird Farm Conure Mix, Magnolia Bird Farm Large Hookbill, Magnolia Bird Farm Hookbill Supreme and Magnolia Bird Farm Parrot Mix.
The bird seed and peanut products were distributed in the US from October 12, 2011, through October 12, 2012. Peanuts in the original Sunland yellow mesh bag will have either "best by" dates from October 12, 2012, through October 12, 2013, on the packaging, or a “Crop Year” marking on the package of 2011 or 2012.
No illnesses have been reported to date. Consumers who have purchased these recalled products are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of them immediately. RECALL: Wildwood Seed & Specialties recalls bird, small animal foods due to Salmonella

Wildwood Seed & Specialties is recalling a limited supply of its Sleek and Sassy brand bird and small animal foods that contain raw in-shell peanuts. These products contain peanut ingredients recalled by Sunland Inc., which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The Sleek and Sassy products are sold in 16- and 32-ounce jars and bags ranging in size from 2-40 pounds. The products were distributed to retail pet food stores in Oregon and Washington, USA.
The products affected by this recall are identified with the lot codes 01148 through 01241 and have the following UPC codes:

RECALL: ZuPreem bird food recalled for high calcium levels

Premium Nutritional Products Inc. is recalling several formulas of its ZuPreem line of bird food due to calcium levels higher than the recommended amount, which can pose a health threat to birds.
The recalled bird food products include ZuPreem Medium/Large and Large FruitBlend With Natural Fruit Flavors. The affected products have an expiration date of November 13, 2013, or November 2013, and are marked with lot numbers 598405052 or 598405072.
