RECALL: Goldenfeast recalls exotic bird food blends for possible Salmonella contamination

Goldenfeast is recalling several exotic bird food blends for potential Salmonella contamination.

Goldenfeast Inc. is recalling several exotic bird food blends due to possible Salmonella contamination from parsley flake ingredients supplied by Specialty Commodities Inc., an outside supplier to Goldenfeast. The recall involves the following Goldenfeast brands: Australian Blend, Bean Supreme, Caribbean Bounty, Gardenflora, Petite Hookbill, Schmitts Original, Basics Plus Finch and Basics Plus Parakeet.
On February 11, Specialty Commodities initiated a voluntary product recall of parsley flakes distributed to Goldenfeast on May 17, 2012, because the product may have the potential for Salmonella contamination.
Specific best-by dates and lot numbers can be found on the Food and Drug Administration's website. Recalled bird food products were distributed to retailers and distributors in the states of: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin and Virginia, USA, and Canada.

RECALL: Vitae brand bird food recalled for potential Salmonella contamination

Merit Bird Co. LLC of Chatsworth, California, USA, is recalling select Vitae brand bird foods because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 
The following products with lot codes are being recalled:

• Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 2 lbs. (#2840081)
• Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 4 lbs. (#2840090)
• Vitae Small Hookbill 4 lbs. (#2840225)
• Vitae Small Hookbill 20 lbs. (#2840234)
• Vitae Hookbill with Sunflower 4 lbs. (#2840252)
• Vitae Large Hookbill 4 lbs. (#2840279) 
The bird food was shipped between May 2012 and February 2013, distributed through Southern California, USA, retail pet stores. 
The company says no illnesses have been reported to date. This recall was the result of a routine testing performed by Specialty Commodities, which revealed that the finished products, including parsley that is on recall from Specialty Commodities, contain Salmonella. The company has stopped production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue to investigate.

RECALL: United Pet Group recalls select bird food, bird supplement products

United Pet Group Inc. is recalling select bird food and bird nutritional supplement products that contain dried parsley flakes supplied by Specialty Commodities Inc., which initiated a recall of the parsley flakes due to potential Salmonella contamination.
United Pet Group's recall affects a limited quantity of its Ultra Blend Gourmet Food for Parakeets products, ēCotrition Grains & Greens Nutritional Supplement for Parakeets,ēCotrition Grains & Greens Nutritional Supplement for Canaries and Finches, and ēCotrition Grains & Greens Nutritional Supplement for Cockatiels. The products were distributed throughout the USA and Canada between October 2012 and February.

Specific lot numbers/production codes being recalled include:
• Ultra Blend Gourmet, Food for Parakeets (80-oz. bag)

The company says there are no known illnesses to date associated with the products.

RECALL: Kaytee recalls bird treats for possible Salmonella contamination

Small-animal food manufacturer Kaytee Products is recalling several bird treats and greens items due to possible Salmonella contamination from parsley flake ingredients from Kaytee’s outside supplier Specialty Commodities Inc.
A recall letter dated February 11 from Specialty Commodities was sent to Kaytee in reference to products manufactured as early as June 12, 2012. Kaytee says that although it has not received any positive test results for Salmonella in finished products, the recall is being initiated in accordance with US Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
