Specialty pet supply chain Fressnapf has partnered with arvato Distribution GmbH to handle the logistics and returns processing for its online store, starting July 1.
The collaboration comes after the online store was converted to hybris software and SAP interface. The company hopes the move will lead to profitable growth and increased quality.
"I am convinced that, with arvato, we have found a service provider which is dedicated to customer care and customer orientation. We expect further improvements in the services, we offer to our customers, such as faster and more individual delivery times," says Alfred Glander, managing director at Fressnapf. "We look forward to continuing to work with arvato and are sure to have created a strong foundation for future growth."
Fressnapf’s digital business has grown since the launch of its online store in 2009. The online business earned EUR50 million (US$54 million) in total sales for fiscal 2014.

German petfood manufacturer to construct third production site
Petfood manufacturer Markus-Mühle announced it's currently completing a third company complex in Germany.
"We will now have the capacity to produce 50,000 (metric tons) of petfood per year on site," says managing director, Markus Olberts.
The Lupo Group, comprising the companies Markus-Mühle and Luposan, exports to 19 countries and aims to open up additional sales regions. The company is based in Westerwald, Germany.

Pets Choice completes buyout deal with German petfood company
UK petfood manufacturer Pets Choice recently completed a buyout deal with German petfood company Tiernahrung Deuerer, which had was previously a supplier to Pets Choice.
The deal between the petfood companies promises "significant investment," according to a report. Some Pets Choice shareholders, including Joseph Davies and Anthony Oppenheimer, who held shares in the company of 22 percent and 17 percent respectively, left the business.
"This buyout will allow us to further build on this growth and success by drawing on the vast experience of both myself and Hans Jurgen Deuerer in the petfood market," said Tony Raeburn, Pets Choice CEO.

German petfood company Vitakraft in talks with potential investors
German-based petfood company Vitakraft-Werke is currently holding talks with potential partners and investors over a stake in the company or other forms of cooperation, according to a report.
Dieter Meyer, head of advertising and PR, confirmed rumors that began at Zoomark International in Bologna and at various industry events regarding the possible involvement of an investor in Vitakraft.

German petfood, pet products market grew in 2010, IVH reports
The German pet market grew slightly in 2010, with total sales of petfood and pet care products rising 0.8% to nearly 3.71 billion euro (US$5.3 billion), according to the Industrial Association of Pet Care Producers, IVH.
The prepared petfood segment also increased 0.8% in 2010, to nearly 2.78 billion euro (US$3.97 billion). The pet accessories segment saw sales growth of 0.7% to 930 million euro (US$1.33 billion).
IVH reported the strongest growth in the market for cat food in 2010, which is Germany's single largest segment in pet care, with a 2.9% increase in sales to 1.44 billion euro (US$2.05 billion). The snacks and cat milk segment achieved the highest gains of 8.3%, to 183 million euro (US$261.5 million). Dry food grew 3.0% to 312 million euros (US$445.9 million) and wet food increased 1.8% to 940 million euro (US$1.34 billion).
The market for dog food remained relatively unchanged, gaining 0.1% to 1.1 billion euro (US$1.57 billion). The snacks segment saw sales of 332 million euro (US$474.49 million), an increase of 3.4%. Both the dry food and wet food categories of dog food saw a decrease in sales for 2010, down 1.1% to 354 million euro (US$505.94 million) and down 1.4% to 416 million euro (US$594.55 million), respectively.

German pet food market grows slowly in 2010
Germany's market for pet food grew slightly in 2010 compared to 2009, rising 0.8% to € 2.777 billion (US$3.93 billion).
The strongest growth in 2010 was in the market for cat food, which increased 2.9% to € 1.435 billion (US$2.03 billion). Total sales of dog food increased 0.1% from 2009 to € 1.102 billion (US$1.56 billion) in 2010. The market for pet products also increased slightly from 2009, growing by 0.8% in 2010 to € 3.707 billion (US$5.25 billion).
