Founder and CEO of Positive Identification of Pets (PiP) Philip Rooyakkers has developed a smartphone app that helps pet owners act quickly when their dog or cat goes missing. Launched on iTunes, the app uses advanced facial recognition technology to help identify lost pets and reunite them with their families, according to Rooyakkers.

Cloud-based technology stores pet information, including breed, photos, age, size, gender and any other possible unique traits that the pet may have. If a pet goes missing, the app will activate an "Amber Alert" to veterinarians, animal control and rescue agencies, PiP subscribers, and social media users within the owner's local area. It will also begin monitoring social media sites for any postings of found pets. When a pet is found, the system analyzes the photos for a match.
Rooyakkers is also the co-founder of The Urban Puppy Shop, a doggy daycare and grooming service in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
A new application is available that allows pet owners to feed their pet remotely using their smartphone and a special petfood bowl.
The app, Pintofeed, lets pet owners remotely feed their pets when they are on-the-go, as well as lets pet owners set up a repeating schedule. The app and bowl notify the owner when the pet has been feed and also displays portion size.
The app lets owners of multiple pets or shelters manage up to 50 Pintofeeds from one account. Pintofeed works with dry petfood only.

* Pet Notebook ($1.99 -- BarnacleJive Software): The ultimate organizer for your pet info. Stores photos, stats (breed, birthday, name, tag or microchip numbers, etc) and medical data (vaccination dates, medications and doses).

A Web App has been released that let’s you easily view Petfood-Connection.com on your smart phone, such as a Droid or iPhone. The service is free, and quick and easy to set up. To get started, go to m.petfood-connection.com using the Web browser on your mobile device. Once there, you save the address on your device.
