Bangkok 2014 agriculture, pet tradeshows a success

FIAAP, VICTAM and GRAPAS 2014 were held in Bangkok in April, and the shows were a success in spite of unrest in Thailand and general elections in India and Indonesia. Petfood Forum Asia was held in conjunction with the agriculture-focused shows.
According to show organizers, exhibitions were hold out and more than 15% larger than the 2012 show. The majority of visitors were from Thailand, South and South East Asia—30% were from outside of Thailand. The number of dedicated visitors to the shows was just over 6,100.
General elections in India and Indonesia meant fewer visitors from those countries, but the biggest challenge was the civil unrest in Thailand, especially in Bangkok, which left some visitors uneasy about traveling to the area.
Two firsts for the shows were the ASEAN Feed & Rice Symposium, held by Victam International BV of the Netherlands, and the inaugural session of the ASEAN Feed Summit, also organized by Victam International BV and hosted by the Thai Feed Mill Association.

Bangkok returning to normal as protests wane, tradeshows will continue

Thailand lifted its state of emergency on March 19, 2014, as tensions cooled following weeks of anti-government protests. This is promising news for Bangkok and tradeshow season, particularly Petfood Forum Asia and FIAAP/Victam/GRAPAS Asia, which are being held in April.
At the height of demonstrations, protesters shut down key road junctions in Bangkok and blockaded government ministries. Numbers have fallen in recent weeks, however, and the protesters are primarily occupying a city-center park, according to reports. Petfood Forum Asia 2014 will be held April 9 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre in conjunction with FIAAP/Victam/GRAPAS Asia, being held April 8-10.

Petfood Forum Asia draws record attendance in Thailand

On February 16, more than 135 petfood professionals from 15 countries attended Petfood Forum Asia 2012, co-located with agrifeed show Victam Asia, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

SPF launches new odor program for pleasant-smelling pet food

During Victam Asia 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand, a dog mascot directs visitors to the SPF stand to learn about the new Feel Good Program
SPF, the palatability company, launched a new Feel Good Program that allows pet food manufacturers to create products that smell pleasing to pet owners while tasting good to pets, the company says. The program debuted at Victam Asia 2012, occurring February 15-17 in Bangkok, Thailand.
In partnership with Firmenich, a perfume and flavor company, SPF developed the program based on research into pet owner preferences for the smell of kibble and wet pet food products, according to Elodie Revéret, research project manager for SPF. She said the companies worked to prove that the odors, which can be customized for pet food manufacturers, will last throughout the shelf life of the products. Examples of odors available include roasted chicken, Italian seasoning and beef.
Chloe Champion, markets and trends manager for SPF, and Mark Rubin, senior flavorist for Firmenich, will present the research on what pet-owning consumers think about the smell of kibble at Petfood Forum 2012 on April 3, at the Renaissance Schaumburg near Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Organizations that help care for these pets in good times and bad still need help feeding and relocating them. SCADBangkok (SCAD stands for Soi Cats and Dogs, with "Soi" being the Thai word for alley) can use donations of dry and wet cat food, plus wet dog food, as well as monetary donations. The Soi Dog Foundation also needs financial support and pet food donations.
As part of PetfoodForum Asia in Bangkok on February 16, we will be collecting donations and forwarding to these two organizations, or you can donate directly to them. Please consider helping out!
