Banfield Charitable Trust, Royal Canin launch holiday petfood drive

Banfield Charitable Trust and Royal Canin invite pet owners and advocates across the US to participate in and support the ninth annual holiday petfood drive. The program, launched Dec. 1, 2014 and running through Dec. 24, features 12 days of promotions that will raise awareness about pet hunger, collect petfood and raise funds to benefit senior citizen pet owners needing support in the care of their companions.
Through the 12 Days of Joy Pet Food Drive, Royal Canin encourages consumers to drive donations by sharing snapshots of the joy their pets bring to everyday life. The donations will benefit seniors who need the support to keep their companions, but struggle with mobility and costs. Together with Banfield Charitable Trust, Royal Canin will encourage fans to post photos of their pets that bring delight to their lives, and in return will donate food to those in need.
How to participate:

• Make a monetary donation: Make a monetary donation at www.banfieldcharitabletrust.org or at Banfield Pet Hospitals to fund grants for local Meals On Wheels petfood programs. For donations of US$10 or more, KONG will donate a toy to the pet of a Meals On Wheels client.
• Donate bags and cans of dog and cat food at one of Banfield Pet Hospital's 870+ locations across the US.
• Submit a pet photo on Royal Canin's Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages. A photo submission will account for 20 pounds of food donated.
• By submitting pet pictures, users are also entered to win a daily prize from Royal Canin. During the month of December, additional information (and new ways to win) will be provided on Royal Canin's social networks.
The program runs through Dec. 24, 2014.

Banfield Pet Hospitals host pet food drive in December

Veterinary professionals from across the United States are taking part in a national pet food drive, Season of Suppers, to help pet owners feed their hungry pets.

During November and December, Banfield Charitable Trust hopes to collect more than 70,000 pounds of petfood to provide 140,000 meals to the pets of homebound seniors, the unemployed and the disabled in 2012. Through December 31, pet owners may donate bags and cans of cat and dog food to any Banfield Pet Hospital, most of which are located inside PetSmart stores. Banfield Charitable Trust also hopes to raise more than US$100,000 in monetary donations on its website and at the pet hospitals in order to fund grants for more than 100 local Meals on Wheels pet food distribution programs after the food donations are depleted. 

National petfood drive accepting donations Nov. 5-14 at Petco

The Petco Foundation and Petco are hosting the National Pet Food Drive November 5-14 to help pet parents in need provide a healthy and plentiful holiday season for their four-legged family members. Specially marked petfood collection bins can be found in Petco stores across the US.
During the food drive, Hill's Science Diet will match, bag-for-bag, every bag of Hill's cat or dog food purchased at a Petco store and donated, up to 25,000 pounds.
Petco and the Petco Foundation launched the National Pet Food Bank program in March, starting with about 250 stores in select markets. Today, all of Petco's more than 1,000 stores have designated petfood bins in place for year-round collection. Each store has partnered with a local food bank or animal welfare group to donate petfood and litter directly to economically stressed pet parents in that store's community. The program has provided more than 110 tons of donated petfood and litter to those in need.

Pets of the Homeless leads national petfood drive

Pets of the Homeless will hold a national petfood drive for the first National Feeding Pets of the Homeless week, Aug. 8-14.
The organization is asking the public to take donations of petfood and petfood supplies to one of the identified, local collection sites, so they can be distributed to food banks and homeless shelters nationwide. A listing of over 200 collection sites can be found on the organization's website.
"Since 2008, collection site members have taken over 52 tons of pet food and over $8,000 worth of supplies to homeless shelters, food banks and soup kitchens across the country. It is a combined effort to continue year-round collections of pet food. We applaud the caring, member volunteers who have reported their contributions. The need is great for communities to continue to donate to this on-going effort," said Genevieve Frederick, executive director of Pets of the Homeless.

Pantries join forces to collect petfood

The Pikes Peak Pet Pantry announced teaming up with the Northland Pet Pantry in Missouri, USA, and Central Florida Animal Pantry to hold the first ever Pet Pantry Partners’ “Furr-ever Home” National Pet Food Drive, starting November 21 through January 1.
All of the organizations involved hope to gather at least 5,000 pounds each, or 15,000 or more combined pounds of dog and cat food, as well as food for other pets, to help local families keep their pets.
The pantries also hope to bring national awareness to the importance of petfood assistance.
